As a CSA member, you play an integral role in our ability to grow wonderful, local food. Pre-paying for the season's produce supports our seed purchases, early season projects like getting our new tunnels setup, and extra labour required in April and May to get everything planted. In addition, CSA members benefit from our bumper crops and will occasionally find extra items or quantities when our crops are producing above and beyond. One thing we get asked quite often is "What happens if crops fail?". Well, honestly if the crops fail then there's not much that we can do, it's a part of the inherent risk in farming and while we control as many variables as we can, we can't control them all. So, we keep our CSA shares to a sustainable number of members that allows for crop failures without severely affecting the CSA share's quantities. So far, this strategy has worked well and we are able to minimize the amount of repeats in each week's box.  This year, we're partnering with Juniper Acres to offer more variety and support a larger number of shares!

One CSA veggie box will contain at least $37.50 worth of produce per week, which works out to 6-8 items per week. Our members range from individuals to families, and the we find that one box supports around 2-4 people depending on how much produce they eat. We structure our boxes and the varieties in them as follows:

  • 2-3 greens from: salad mix, kale, Swiss chard, spinach, arugula, endive, radicchio, mustard greens, bok choi
  • 1-2 hot house crops: cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, long english cucumbers, snacking cucumbers, bell peppers, or hot peppers
  • 2-3 seasonal produce staples: radish, beets, beans, potatoes, peas, carrots, celery, onions (shallots, red, cippolini, green), kohlrabi, leeks, zuchinni, garlic, or winter squash
  • 1-2 specialty items: oyster mushrooms, strawberries, melons, salad turnips, fennel, or sunchokes (some we source from other farmers whose growing practices we know
  • 1 herb: basil, parsley, thyme, rosemary, cilantro, or dill
